The Hero Xtreme 440R is said to use the same engine that will power the upcoming Harley-Davidson X440. Reports suggest that both bikes were presented during a “customer clinic” organized to gauge the initial reaction of the public.
Hero MotoCorp is said to be working on three platforms. In addition to the 440cc engine that will power Harley-Davidson’s first mid-capacity bike, Hero is also developing a new 210cc liquid-cooled engine for the Karizma XMR. There is a 420cc platform in the works as well, that is said to spawn an entirely new range of motorcycles.
The mid-capacity segment has seen substantial growth in recent times. Hero MotoCorp is now looking to grab a piece of the pie with help from partner Harley-Davidson. The upcoming X440 would target the Royal Enfield buyer, while the rumoured Xtreme 440R could take on the likes of KTM and Husqvarna.
